3rd exploitation workshop in Slovenia

We were honored to be able to present our work to the leaders of study groups for teachers from the field of mechanical engineering. They will be the ambassadors for spreading the word about the project and its results among mechanical engineering schools in Slovenia. We wanted to give them very good and broad information about the project and special about e-course and facilitators handbook.
We have manage to get another meeting that will be on October the 14th with the aim to invite more teachers to participate in this e-course that will be implemented through the program of further education and training for teachers. This program is organized by Ministry for education of Slovenia.

Third workshop in Slovenia

Yesterday (24th of September) we met with very interesting group of leaders of study groups for teachers from the field of mechanical engineering. They will be the ambassadors for spreading the word about the project and its results among mechanical engineering schools in Slovenia. We wanted to give them very good and broad information about the project and special about e-course and facilitators handbook.
The response was very positive and we manage to organize another meeting in the middle of October where we will be presenting the e-course to the potential e-course participants.

Workshops in Italy

In September 2014, three eVET2EDU workshops were held in Italy.

Two workshops took place in the Technical Institute for Transport and Logistics “Gioeni Trabia” of Palermo, where were involved about a hundred teachers and professors of the same institute. The Institute would like to include the eVET2EDU e-course into its Moodle Platform and the Director showed the interest to integrate the course as a refresher course for his teachers.

The third one was held at CESIE office with a smaller number of teachers and trainers from different schools and VET Institutions. The workshop focused on the practical and concrete aspects of e-course.

3rd exploitation workshop in Lithuania

Vytautas Magnus University team implemented Exploitation workshop for the members of Lithuanian Association of Distance and E. Learning (LieDM association). LieDM association unites Lithuanian science, study, and education institutions which implement distance teaching and learning (association unites 40 educational institutions at the moment).

Open educational ideas approach to the workshop was chosen, (e)Vet2edu course was presented together with OER ideas, implementation and benefits for educational organization. Participants of the workshop showed the intention to integrate the course/ some parts of the course into educational offer of their institutions.

Second workshop in Slovenia

On Wednesday, 28th of August we had our second workshop at Biotechnical Educational Centre Ljubljana. Teacher at Centre were very interested but had some doubts about the amount of time and work that had to be invested in ending the e-course. They are thinking about using parts of the e-course in their classes.

Workshops in Lithuania

On the 21st of February, 2014 Vytautas Magnus University team held the first exploitation workshop, which was integrated to the conference “Studies in Modern Society 2014″. Open Educational Resources approach was used and this could be mentioned as a positive aspect, because this topic is relevant for educators and attracted a lot of participants of the conference to come to the project workshop section. The course itself is OER, so OER idea together with the course was promoted. It also leaded to the discussion how teachers can use OER in their educational practice. Feedback from participants showed that teachers need more information on what are OER, OER benefits, CC licenses, under what terms they can use products with CC licenses.

On the 4rd of March, 2014 we had the second workshop at Kaunas Teacher Qualification Center. This center aims to fulfill the lifelong learning needs of educational institutions’ representatives, decision makers, teachers and other adult learners. Organizing workshop trough this institution helped us to attract representatives and educators from more than 20 various educational institutions.

Participants of both workshops showed their interest towards the course content and learning methods and reported their intention to re-use the content and learning methods of the course in their educational practice.

eVET2edu presented at EDEN 2014 conference in Zagreb

The project was presented at the EDEN 2014 conference in Zagreb during the Synergy strand on June 11th, where synergies with similar projects were explored, and in the MOOCs and OERs section on June 13th, in which Agnieszka Chrzaszcz presented an article entitled “cMOOC in e-Learning Design for VET Teachers: Mapping Professional Competences Online”. The proceeding will be availiable in July.

E-course & handbook released as OER

The main project results – the online course and the facilitator’s handbook – were finally released as Open Educational Resources. After 3 months of piloting phrase, the course and the handbook were revised and made available online under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license so that the resources can be re-used, copied and modified according to the needs.

Both resources are downloadable from evet2edu repository in 9 languages: English, Polish, Czech, Croatian, Slovenian, Lithuanian, Spanish, Italian and Norwegian. The original course was also open on Moodle platform where all localised versions are accessible as OER and can be browsed with no registration/login.

E-course revised after piloting & finalised

In order to ensure the best possible project results, we asked our participants and course tutors during the piloting of the VETeL course in all the partner countries to provide us with regular feedback on individual modules, the design of activities and interaction, the time allocated for those activities, the quality of content, the usefulness and quality of moderation. Additionally, the course was evaluated by an external expert evaluator, who assessed the course design and provided the team with additional guidelines for improvements and revision.

Based on the feedback from participants and the external evaluator, the course has been revised and improved. The module duration has been slightly adapted, so the course now last 50 hours over 12 weeks, with workload of 4 hrs/week. Some activities were shortened, changed or removed to provide for a clearer task list and more concise objectives. The list of competences the participants will acquire has been adapted and now includes 7, as opposed to 8 competences. The tools used for activities in the course were also adapted based on participant and tutor comments about their usability in the course and where needed replaced with better solutions. Some visualisations and images were added, clarifications and additional instructions provided where needed. Finally, the order of modules has been changed and is now: Module 1 Intro, Module 2 Competences, Module 3 E-learning, Module 4 E-tivities, Module 5 Motivation, Module 6 Group work, Module 7 Moderation, Module 8 Developing resources, Module 9 Reusing resources, Module 10 Facilitator’s role.

The revision was a collaborative effort of all the project partner teams.

The changes have been implemented in the English and local versions of the course, and the team is proud to say that the course can now be offered to a broader audience in partner countries and beyond!

Piloting Report: Recommendations for improving the Course & the Handbook

We are presenting Piloting Report based on the feedbacks received from all actors involved during the piloting phase of the e-course VETel .

The Report analised the responses of the:

Course participants which evaluated the course
Facilitators of the Course which assessed the Handbook for the facilitator
External Evaluators which monitored the Course implementation

The aim of the report was to guide the partnership to a further improvement of the e-course and of the Facilitator’s Handbook, to ensure an high quality of the final products. Recommendations for improving the e-course and manual will be the key points in the Report.

In total 128 participants attended the VET_eL e-course while “only” 64 (8 per country) have been foreseen by eVET2EDU project proposal.

The participants evaluated the VET-_eL e-course being aware of having learned and acquired new competences – appreciating the innovative aspects in terms of contents, approach, methodology and sector.

They ensured that the content of the e-course was relevant as a teacher in to a VET context and provided many suggestions for improving the course.
