The teachers present at this workshop were form schools from the field of mechanical engineering. The field of mechanical engineering is very fast changing and we think that this field would be most appropriate to be introduced to e-learning.
The feedback was very positive and their opinion was that this e-course would be special suitable for young teacher who are good with technology but not that good in pedagogy of using it in e-learning.

After workshops for VET teachers in Poland https://evet2edu.eu/after-workshops-for-vet-teachers-in-poland/ https://evet2edu.eu/after-workshops-for-vet-teachers-in-poland/#comments Thu, 25 Sep 2014 15:23:14 +0000 karolina https://evet2edu.eu/?p=1482 Continue reading ]]> The last week (15.09-19.09) was very busy for the Polish team of evet2edu project as we were doing series of 4 workshops for teachers from VET schools. The workshops were co-organised with KOWEZiu. In total we trained 20 teachers who represent various fields (mechatronics, engineening, economy, architecture, logictic, etc.). We offered 3 learning paths:

  • Active online learning
  • Online group work
  • Recording professional development through evidence of competences and qualification online.

After research on user requirements (WP1) and course piloting (WP4) we were aware of issues that are the most critical elements for VET teachers: collaboration, practice, and competences. The workshops were designed in reference to evet2edu e-course and based on its key elements: the concept of e-tivities, social learning and evidence-based learning.

We had in mind the blended context as VET teachers meet with learners at schools on regular basis. Therefore, the challenge for us was to prepare the workshop in such a form that would be the most usefull for our audience. During workshops we worked with active methods. The focus was put on designing engaging and authentic activities enhanced by ICT. We tried to stress that an online activity can be a small exercise which is possible to be accopplished by mixing face-to-face learning and online tools. Such approach we offered in Active online learning and Online group work. In both workshops we based on Gilly Salmon’s concept of e-tivity.

Teachers in small groups were brainstorming and disussing ideas for an activity enhanced by ICT. After that they worked out the idea in more details to finish the session with final outcome – designed activity. Groups exchanged their work and we discussed it all together collecting feedback on a flipchart.

In each group teachers developed their learning designs for students from VET schools, for instance activities required group work: a public park/playground planning, SWOT analysis of productional process; and individual activities: preparation of menu for vegetarian; developing mindmap with 7 new wonders of the world.

During the third path Recording professional development through evidence of competences and qualification online teachers were asked to identify their competences and map them with evidence. They produced digital evidence and built a draft of their e-portfolio.

We also proposed simple online tools that support individual learners’ work and collaboration among students. Padlet occured to be the most favourable tool in each workshops’ group.

It is very simple online board, easy to set up (without reqistering and logging into). As a consequence of its simplicity, Padlet is very flexible technology and can be used in every kind of activity that we can imagine. For instance, we used it to organise information around the workshops (schedule, agenda, deadlines, futher steps, links to reference materials, etc). Our teachers from Active online learning and Online group work wrote Padlet into their learning designs as learning environments where their students were expected to work/colaborate.

What is more Padlet was also used during the third workshop path Recording professional development through evidence of competences and qualification online where teachers built their e-portfolio and were amazed by its easiness and a range of possibilities in the same time.

We also decided to provide videoconference for teachers to give them a chance to experience this form of online activity. We met two times to talk about their projects and show them tool for online meeting.

From evaluation we know that all 3 workshops were ranked as very effective and engaging. We hope that Polish VET teachers have gained basic designing skills and knowledge where to dig deeper in the field of technology-enhanced learning.

Woskshops in Spain https://evet2edu.eu/woskhops-in-spain/ https://evet2edu.eu/woskhops-in-spain/#comments Tue, 29 Jul 2014 12:58:07 +0000 marias https://evet2edu.eu/?p=1428 Continue reading ]]> Spanish team has developed two workshops. One was done in JUTE event in Bilbao in February and the other one was part of Novadors 2014, in Gandía, in July.

JEDI is a well known event about ICT and Education in Spain, where a lot of teachers from educational field go to share experiences and learn from other colleges. This event are organized and funded by two important Spanish institutions: the University of Deusto and Cátedra Telefónica, specially Aulablog, a project lead by innovative teachers in Spain interested in promoting the use of technologies in education and web 2.0 tools. Participants rated the course as very positive, mainly because is focus on VET field, because there are not so many experiences in this level. Regarding the course content, they valued very positively working by competences, like the course do, and the Open License that the course has, because it represents an opportunity to modify and contextualize the content. Some participants, after making a virtual tour of the course platform, face some difficulties, like the part of the blog of the participant, but they said that it was caused because they did not know that tool in Moodle. They said they liked the organization of the content and the way of assessment.

In Novadors, the workshop was very successful. We presented, using pechakucha style, the course. Later we developed some activities with the participants. They liked the course because they said it is focus on pedagogical aspects about e-learning, not only in technological aspects. They asked about the way the course will be distributed and they brainstormed about the best way to implement the course in their institutions. A discussion about online education emerged and they analyzed some Spanish online training proposals. When carrying out some activities, several VET teachers talked about the possibility of implementing some online activities from evet2edu course, like a way to introduce ICT in their traditional classes.

Spanish team are very happy with the workshops because they represent an opportunity to share ideas and communicate with VET teachers. We are preparing Webminars with the director of different resources centres in Spain by September.

Workshops in Lithuania https://evet2edu.eu/workshops-in-lithuania/ https://evet2edu.eu/workshops-in-lithuania/#comments Mon, 21 Jul 2014 09:58:21 +0000 vidaz https://evet2edu.eu/?p=1433 Continue reading ]]> On the 21st of February, 2014 Vytautas Magnus University team held the first exploitation workshop, which was integrated to the conference “Studies in Modern Society 2014″. Open Educational Resources approach was used and this could be mentioned as a positive aspect, because this topic is relevant for educators and attracted a lot of participants of the conference to come to the project workshop section. The course itself is OER, so OER idea together with the course was promoted. It also leaded to the discussion how teachers can use OER in their educational practice. Feedback from participants showed that teachers need more information on what are OER, OER benefits, CC licenses, under what terms they can use products with CC licenses.

On the 4rd of March, 2014 we had the second workshop at Kaunas Teacher Qualification Center. This center aims to fulfill the lifelong learning needs of educational institutions’ representatives, decision makers, teachers and other adult learners.  Organizing workshop trough this institution helped us to attract representatives and educators from more than 20 various educational institutions.

Participants of both workshops showed their interest towards the course content and learning methods and reported their intention to re-use the content and learning methods of the course in their educational practice.
