Interviews in WP1 completed in Croatian schools

A picture of a teacher interview in WP1 in CroatiaCARNet’s eVET2Edu team has completed the interviews among the VET teachers in four Croatian VET schools. Although the sample is rather small, the conducted interviews were insightful and have provided the team with many useful indications regarding the use of ICT in Croatian schools. The teachers that were interviewed are often pioneers in their environment and have talked about the many benefits of the use of ICT in their instruction for their students.

Here are some of the indications that the interviews resulted in and can later be used in the redesign of the online course:

  • ICT use in the interviewed Croatian VET schools is often basic (ppt, e-mail and YouTube, sometimes other Internet resources)
  • even basic use of ICT does contribute to the motivation of the students which is extremely important in VET schools
  • there is room for the use of e-portfolio in VET since the students are already often obliged to keep portfolios of their work during placements
  • VET schools lack regular textbooks (a very small market in which the publishers often see no interest) and could benefit from e-textbooks
  • many VET teachers produce their own digital materials but often do not share them with other teachers or their students, which makes VET schools a good ground for the promotion of the benefits of OER

The interview results merit greater analysis, but it will be interesting to see how these conclusions compare to those of the teams from other partner countries.
