Course translation is running

After finalising the course adaptation our project has moved to the next phrase – the translation. Each partner is working on national version of the course. This task requires not only translation but also localisation: adding national examples of online courses for analysis, examples of Open Educational Resources, tools used for videoconferencing and so on.

Our working space, and future learning environment is based on Moodle. On Moodle eVET2EDU 9 courses will be available for piloting and in future as open courses under Creative Commons BY licence.

Course adaptation on its peak

Silence it is here but we are all very busy finalising the redesign of the course for teachers and trainers. What is new there, then?

There is a brand new module that forms a framework for the whole course – Developing Competences. We decided that this is crucial for VET, so there is going to be some cool videos and mind-blowing activities that will help teachers and trainers to re-think competencies and skills.

Another novelty is greater focus on resources, as they seem to be the lacking element for VET sector. So there will be two modules on that: one dedicated to creating and publishing multimedia, the second on re-using and re-mixing the resources already availiable.

There are some new activities designed, some videos being shot and some infographics added to stay tuned – the open piloting of the open course will be launched in October 2013.

Clustering projects at EDEN Conference

The projects are not created from vacuum, there is always need and joined idea that makes it possible to develop something together. So eVET2EDU has its predecessor – eVET READY, where with some of the current partners (CPI, CARNET, AGH-UST) we developed a self-evaluation tool for VET institutions to measure their readiness towards e-learning. The synergy between those two initiatives was shown during EDEN Annual Conference held this year in Oslo.

We had a poster on eVET Ready Self-evaluation Tool but it was natural that also our course for VET teachers and trainers was mentioned. The fact that the course is going to be open and availiable for institutions and individuals in 8 languages was in line with the general movement towards open education. And still the lack of OER for VET is a challange indicated by many practitioners attending this event.

Dissemination materials just arrived

For the dissemination activities small leaflet in a form of project business card was designed and printed. We have prepared it in all partners’ languages to maximase the scope of disseminating the project results. National versions of b-card will allow us to contact VET teachers and trainers on local events organised in partners countries for VET sector.

Best practices on e-learning in VET

After successful phrase of conducting interviews with VET teachers, trainers and educators (we finally managed to collect data from 31 interviews), we started searching for good practices on e-learning in VET sector in each partners country. Our main assumption was to collect good specific experiences/real practices in e-learning. We agreed on using the following criteria in our desk research:

Interviews in WP1 completed in Croatian schools

A picture of a teacher interview in WP1 in CroatiaCARNet’s eVET2Edu team has completed the interviews among the VET teachers in four Croatian VET schools. Although the sample is rather small, the conducted interviews were insightful and have provided the team with many useful indications regarding the use of ICT in Croatian schools. The teachers that were interviewed are often pioneers in their environment and have talked about the many benefits of the use of ICT in their instruction for their students.

WP1: We are on the road!

One of the most important phases in a project is to stablish the scenario in where we are going to act.
For us, our scenario is the VET sector, specifically the teachers that we have in different countries teaching everyday in this environment.

The main goal to achieve in Work Packagge 1 in this project refers to understand the reality of each country regarding VET environment.
It is true that each country holds in itself a distinct and particular environment, but we believe that as Europeans we can find some common training needs to address our future course. Continue reading

Vytautas Magnus University team is proceeding with interviews

InterviewVytautas Magnus University (e)Vet2edu team is proceeding with interviews with practitioners of e-learning. It is very interesting to work on this activity and we feel that a lot of good ideas are coming to our report. The interviewers are very positive on e-learning and our project.  They are really waiting for the new e-learning course and there is no doubt for the need of such course in VET sector.

Talking to the VET teachers in Italy

In order to understand the national context of Vocational and Educational Training, Cesie involved educators from the North and South of Italy, who have been interviewed about their previous experience and good practices in the field of e-learning.

This information are very important in this first part of the project: research and need analysis, in order to reach the aims fixed.

Talking to the vocational trainers from Silesia

Sielsian region in the south of Poland is traditionally related to heavy industry: steel factories and mines are part and parcel of the environment. And they are also embedded in the educational landscape – schools and vocational training centres from the region train the specialists and workers for that particular industry branch.

The interview with vocational school teachers from that region using ICT in their teaching practice was really insightful. Blended learning that has been implemented on a large scale this September in the school is an excellent example of a purposeful use of ICT. However, the need for more collaborative, more interactive and engaging e-learning has been recognised and so perhaps apart from getting great information we can also recruit some trainers for our e-course as well.
